Richard Eugene Dowds, age 89, died July 8, 2019 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Richard was born to Virgil and Leota McElroy Dowds. He received a B.S. degree from Kent State University, a M.S. degree in 1954 from Purdue University and a Ph.D. degree in 1959, also from Purdue University. Richard was a Mathematics Professor at Butler University from 1959- 1965 and then a Mathematics Professor at Fredonia State University from 1965-1995. A proud supporter of Purdue University, he was a member of the Purdue Alumni Association and the Purdue Presidents Council. He was also a member of the Mathematical Association of America. Richard enjoyed playing and viewing tennis, crossword puzzles, listening to jazz music and especially loved James Bond movies! He was a loyal fan of the Purdue Boilermakers athletic teams.

Richard is survived by: his daughter, Kathleen Joyce (Chris) Dowds, a son, Thomas Alan (Patsy) Dowds; three grandchildren: Patrick Thomas Dowds, Corey James Dowds and Shannon Marie Dowds, and two sisters-in-law: Rita (Robert) Kolb and Bette Jo (Bob) Knepp.
Besides his parents, Richard is predeceased by: and his wife Mary Della Kuder Dowds, who he married in 1950. The couple was married 53 years at the time of her death in 2003; and his sister, Helen Maxine Jones.
