Doris M. (Day) Burkland, 90, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Thursday November 21, 2019 at Brooks Memorial Hospital. Doris was born June 12, 1929 in Warren, Pa., the daughter of Elmer I. and Mary Margaret (Sweeney) Day. On August 6, 1948 she married her husband, George Burkland, in Jamestown, N.Y. The couple was married 63 years at the time of George’s death in 2013. Prior to her marriage, Doris work for the Bell Telephone Co. in Jamestown. Early in her marriage she work as Administrative Assistant at her husband’s insurance agency, the Record Agency. Above all, she was a stay at home mom, raising her 3 children in Silver Creek, a roll she truly enjoyed. Doris and George traveled extensively and were big fans of the Buffalo Bills. They were season ticket holders for many years and attended 2 of the 4 Super Bowl games the Bills played in.

Doris is survived by: her daughter, Nancy (Fred) Wurst of Atlanta, Ga.; her son, Michael Burkland of Fredonia, N.Y.; granddaughter, Ashley (Michael) Barba of Cumming, Ga.; grandson, Zachary (Katie) Burkland, of Belmont, Ca.; great-granddaughter, Emmaline Barba and her sister, Florence “Susie” (late Jim Dunkle & late Peter) Nuccio of Fredericksburg, Va.
Besides her parents, Elmer and Mary Margaret Day and her husband, George Burkland, Doris is predeceased by: her son, Stephen Burkland; her sister, Helen (late Ray) Gilman; four brothers: Kenneth Day, who died in WWII, Samuel (Lois) Day, Richard (late June) Day, and Donald (late Janet) Day.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 6-8pm and Monday from 10-11am at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia, N.Y. where funeral services will follow Monday at 11 am. Interment will be in the Sheridan
