Obituary

Susan Hach Murphy, 50, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Friday December 4, 2020 at home with her loving family at her side after struggling with cancer. Susan was born in Rochester, New York on November 2, 1970 to the James and Jane (Stover) Hach. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a concentration in Ceramics and Masters of Education Degree in Counseling, both from Alfred University. Susan has professional licenses as a counselor, child life yoga and vinyasa yoga instructor. She worked as a school counselor for the Cattaraugus-Little Valley School District, Hornell City School and Norwich School District. Susan was the Employee Assistance Program Coordinator at SUNY Fredonia, a professional artist and yoga instructor. An active member of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, Susan enjoyed singing with the Praise Team at the church. She also enjoyed creating jewelry, fine works of wool felt, and pottery. She loved nature, hiking and kayaking. Above all, her favorite activity was being a mother to her three sons.

Susan is survived by: her husband, Jeffrey Murphy; three sons: Ronan, Samuel and Jude all of Fredonia, N.Y.; two brothers: Charles (Shannon) Hach, their children: Cyrus and Celia, all of Manor, PA; Matthew (Joanne) Hach and their children: Emily and Zachary Hach, all of Macedon, N.Y.; and step-mother, Barb Hach of Webster, N.Y.; Susan is predeceased by her parents, James and Jane Hach.

Sue was the ultimate giver. Helping and fostering all people. She lived by the phrase “We rise by lifting others”. She was passionate in her work professionally, as a wife and most importantly as a mother. We would like to thank the whole Fredonia community for their love and support.

A private family ceremony will be on Saturday, December 12, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date.

Sue was a regular in Dods Hall with her weekly Yoga classes. Whether in class or in the halls she regularly stopped to talk about her boys and their soccer accomplishments. She was so very proud of them. She was always a kind and helpful person. She will be remembered always.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Murphy family. Sue was such a wonderful soul, she helped so many people on campus, including myself. Her passion, love, and humor will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

Dear Family of Sue.
My deepest condolences on the loss of the wonderful Sue.
I had the pleasure of taking many of her yoga classes at Fredonia and she was always inspiring, kind, funny, and compassionate.
She spoke of her sons often and it was clear that she was a happy and great mom.
She will be sorely missed.
My best to your whole family.
Love,
Rachel Kerr

I'm thankful for the friendship and working relationship, I had with Sue. She was an asset to our team of EAP coordinators in WNY. Her creative free spirit and love for helping all, was a constant quality she displayed at all times. I will miss the time we spent at The Upper Crust and also cherish the memories of the times we laughed. Sue even convinced me to take a yoga class and this alone was a huge accomplishment. Thank you for sharing such Sue with us. Sending prayers and hugs to all.
