CARL G. TIMKO - October 27, 1940 – 2021

Entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2021 as a result of Covid-19. Carl was born October 27, 1940 to the late Bess (Henshaw) and George Timko in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, into humble beginnings. He moved to Niagara Falls in 1952 and attended Gaskill Junior High School and graduated from Trott Vocational in 1959. In 1961, Carl married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Trish) Timko. They would have been married 60 years this year.
Carl attended Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, Niagara University in Lewiston, the University of Buffalo Law School and Cornell University (New York State Criminal Code of Procedure). Also a graduate of the Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse.
Carl was extremely involved in each community that he lived in. His past memberships included; Chautauqua County Magistrates Association; New York State Magistrates Association; Chautauqua County Funeral Directors Association (Vice President); Erie-Niagara Funeral Directors Association; New York State Funeral Directors Association; National Funeral Directors Association; Loyal Order of Moose, Dunkirk Lodge 89; Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Dunkirk Lodge 922; Fredonia Beaver Club; Fredonia Rotary Club; Fredonia Grange No. 1; Niagara Active Hose Co. Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Captain and Vice-President and EMT.; Niagara County Judges and Police Executive Conference and Niagara County Board of Realtors. He was also a loyal member of the Knights of Columbus.
Carl was first elected Niagara Town Justice in 1969 and at age 28 was the youngest Town Justice in the state of New York where he served two four-year terms. He participated as a justice in the law and youth program in local high schools and, for many years, lectured on the function of the local criminal court in the same program. As a Justice of the Peace, Carl performed over 500 marriages in Niagara Falls. Carl and Trish moved to Fredonia in 1980. In 1982, Carl was appointed acting village Justice in Fredonia and Town Justice in Fredonia and served in that capacity for three and a half years.
Carl was an incredibly successful businessman. His past business affiliations included; President of Niagara Falls Auto Brokers; Owner of Timko Yamaha Motorcycle Sales; Timko Sales car dealership; Officer Woodland Heights, Inc a subdivision development company; Amendola-Timko Inc. a Century 21 real estate franchise in Niagara Falls. As a licensed funeral director Carl owned Orcutt-Timko Funeral home in Dunkirk and with his wife Trish, owned Larson-Timko Funeral Home in Fredonia which is still in operation today.
As a young man Carl loved stock car racing and took many of his young relatives to Ransomville Speedway
Carl and his wife Trish gave back to the community in countless ways, such as giving away thousands of dogwood tree saplings every year to the residents of Fredonia; donating a tower clock to the Village of Fredonia Commons in 2016, and body cameras to the Fredonia Police Department. A devout Ukrainian Catholic throughout his life, Carl and his wife Trish were married at the church on Ferry Avenue in Niagara Falls, New York which is now named Protection of The Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. They were parishioners throughout their residency in Niagara Falls. Both remained actively involved in church functions and significant rituals including the annual Holy Saturday Blessing of the Easter Basket, a tradition passed down from Carl’s family members. When the new church was built, Carl discreetly donated the gold onion dome which can still be seen affixed to the roof of the church. It’s a recognizable architectural feature of Ukrainian and other Eastern European religious places of worship. His funeral service is being presided over by the current priest of the church, Father Michael.

Carl was an extremely generous and caring person who loved the community he was a part of. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is predeceased by his parents, Bess and George Timko, and his mother- in -law, Beulah Weber. Carl is survived by: his wife of 60 years, Trish. Even at this sad time, I smile thinking of Carl at Shoewood ordering vegetable lasagna. Always a pleasant evening spent with the Timkos.
